Mcrib 2012

Brace yourself, McRib fans. Advertising Age obtained a McDonald’s memo that revealed the timing for the next appearance of the famed McDonald’s sandwich. The McRib should reappear the second half of December 2012. The ephemeral but extremely popular limited-time offering was originally slated for October 22 through November 11 but the timing was moved in hopes to strength a slower sales period. Last year, the McRib was available from October 24 through November 14.

The McRib has some serious fans, prompting McRib locator websites and detaileddiscussions of its ingredients. It also has its share of detractors, such as the Humane Society, which brought a lawsuit against Smithfield last year for its treatment of the pigs that are used for the McRib. In June, McDonald’s announced it will phase out gestation crates within the next 10 years.

Ad Age also learned of some new McDonald’s products including Fish McBites, which had previously appeared in test markets. McDonald’s however wouldn’t comment on any leaked information.

In one slick, subversive move, Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone took a paparazzi moment and turned it into an act of kindness.

The celebrity couple used the set of photographers waiting outside their New York City lunch spot on Saturday to help raise awareness for charity. (h/t: EOnline)

Once the “Spider-Man” stars got wind the paparazzi wanted to snap the perfect shot, the duo decided to hold up signs advocating for Gilda’s Club, which supports people living with cancer, and Worldwide Orphans Foundation, which provides health care, mentoring and education to orphaned children.

The couple’s signs read:

“We just found out that there are paparazzi outside the restaurant we were eating in. So…why not take this opportunity to bring attention to organizations that need and deserve it? www.wwo.org www.gildasclubnyc.org. Have a great day!”

Since the fictional Spider-Man is an orphan himself, it only makes sense Garfield and Stone would seize a paparazzi moment as an opportunity to help needy kids.

Garfield is an ambassador for Worldwide Orphans Foundation. The star helps empower orphaned kids through athletic programs in places such as Haiti and Ethiopia, which he visited last Spring, writes HuffPost blogger Jane Aronson, CEO of the nonprofit.

Stone, whose mother is a triple negative breast cancer survivor, recently starred with her mom in a campaign advocating for early detection. Stone told USAToday that shooting the campaign was eye-opening.

“To me, as her daughter who was not going through that incredible struggle, I had this insane amount of clarity,” she said. “Because I realized — all you have is the present.”

Soda Ban Explained

As expected, the New York City Board of Health officially passed Mayor Bloomberg’s controversial plan to limit the size of large sugary drinks on Thursday.

The vote brought on a wave of opinions, criticisms, and questions. Just exactly which establishments are regulated under the new law? Can I still order a Venti at Starbucks? What about drinks with more than 50 percent milk?

Here to help us understand is filmmaker Casey Neistat, who produced the very helpful video above for The New York Times.

You might remember Neistat from his videos on absurd bike violations, Facebook privacy settings, and even Occupy Wall Street.

One Iowa couple recently received a wedding gift that they aren’t going to forget in a hurry.

Reddit user itgirlragdoll posted the story of a friend whose wedding was crashed by none other than the President of the United States.

Turns out, President Obama had planned a last-minute rally at the Living History Farms in Urbandale, Iowa on September 1. Only problem? There was a wedding happening at the very same location on the same day.

Thankfully, both the rally and wedding went off without a hitch, (the rally ended about an hour before the start of the wedding) and when all was said and done, the newlyweds received this sweet note from the Commander-in-Chief:

Needless to say, best wedding gift ever.

Shaun White Arrested

Shaun White, the two-time Olympic gold medalist, has has been arrested for public intoxication and vandalism after an incident at a hotel in Nashville, TMZ first reported.

According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, White allegedly pulled a fire alarm at the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel early Sunday morning, forcing all guests to evacuate the building.

Police say the professional snowboarder and skateboarder fell and hit his head on a fence as he tried to flee the hotel. WTVF-TV reports that he was treated for minor injuries at Baptist Hospital.

A picture released by the Nashville Metropolitan Police Department shows White with what appears to be a bruise under his left eye.

According to police, White was released from the hospital late Tuesday.

From the Associated Press:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Two-time Olympic gold medalist snowboarder Shaun White faces charges of public intoxication and vandalism, accused of drunkenly destroying a phone at a Nashville hotel and ending up in the hospital after he hit his head.Officers responded to the Loews Vanderbilt Hotel at 2 a.m. Sunday after a drunken man identified as the 26-year-old White pulled a fire alarm, forcing the hotel to evacuate all guests. An employee also reported seeing White destroy a hotel phone.

White tried to leave the hotel in a cab before being stopped by a hotel guest who told the driver police had been called. According to police, White kicked at the man before running away. The man chased him and they collided when White turned around. White, who is also one of the world’s top skateboarders, fell back and hit his head against a fence, police said.

White, who appeared to be drunk, was given the opportunity to sign misdemeanor citations and refused, police said. A spokeswoman for Baptist Hospital said White was treated there and released on Monday before being arrested and booked by police. A mug shot released by police shows White with a black eye.

White was released by police late Monday afternoon on his own recognizance. His court date was set for Oct. 10.

His manager had no immediate comment when reached by The Associated Press.

White won a gold medal in Turin at the 2006 Olympics and in 2010 at the Vancouver Games, and he is an action sports superstar whether skateboarding during the summer or snowboarding in the winter. He’s also a multimillionaire with a clothing line and signature video game who expanded last year with a company selling skateboards, BMX bikes and other equipment.

White also has cleaned up at the Winter X Games, winning medals every year since 2002.
